When I tell you guys that this author right here, Sunny del Williams, got me into reading cozy & spicy romcom, I mean she got me hooked into it. This is her second published book and there’s hints of more to come!

I never took myself for a straight up sweet and spicy romcom girlie, but my head has been turned and I am not looking back.

Methods of Persuasion is the second installment in her Birch Valley Series, this time following Lyla and Arthur on their romantic (and slightly spicy!) journey into their HEA. After sharing an unforgettable night, they both go their separate ways…until Lyla shows up at Arthur’s door as his physiotherapist.

Neither one thought they’d see the other again, and once their paths cross, it’s pretty inevitable when their forbidden romance starts blooming from the seed planted way back when– and even trying their best to stay professional, their attraction and memories pull them back together like magnets. It only gets more prevalent when Arthur’s home becomes Lyla’s safe space after her housing scam fell through.

Their banter and chemistry goes far beyond lust. The relationship begins and grows organically, without drama, and I was rooting for them from the get-go. I enjoy romances that feel natural, that aren’t surface-level, and that mean something to the characters. All in, as the saying goes.

I am a big advocate for healthy mental health representation, so I was very happy with how Lyla’s anxiety was portrayed with care and tact, especially woven into the romantic relationship. Arthur’s non-judgmental, steady, and genuine support as a consistent response makes me believe in love again.

The disability representation was also done really well here – it doesn’t define Arthur’s character, and you can really get a feel for how frustrating it is when healing physical injuries isn’t linear. I was tickled at Arthur’s theatre-geek charm and really enjoyed watching him come out of his shell as their friendship and romance blossomed.

There’s also a cameo from Arthur’s son Blake and his best friend Kara (*ahem* “best friends”) which made me smile – want to see their cosy love story? Check out Read Between the Lines!

I’m looking forward to more of the series coming out soon!
